«Virtual Shtetl»: el sitio diseñado para buscar tu historia polaca

El Museo Polin de Polonia creó una herramienta fundamental para reconstruir historias de aquellos que descienden de abuelos polacos: Virtual Shtetl.

El sitio busca reconstruir la vida de los Shtetls (pueblos judíos) previo a la guerra y tiene información de 1940 de pueblos y ciudades. Casi 80 mil artículos, 30 mil fotos. ¿Cómo funciona?

De acuerdo al pueblo y a lo que se pudo recopilar, hay fotos de edificios y de la vida previa a la guerra. La historia del pueblo y la comunidad judía allí. También hay información de la genealogía, datos demográficos de las comunidades judías desde el siglo XVII y XVIII.

Según cuenta el propio sitio web, «el shtetl se convirtió en un símbolo de la vida judía antes del Holocausto. Grupos de casas de madera, tiendas, escuelas y sinagogas marcadas con mezuzá resonaron con el dialecto yiddish durante una semana, solo para dedicarse a la celebración del Shabat el viernes por la noche, inmersos en el olor de kugel y cholent, en el sonido del nigun. Queremos rendir homenaje a la constelación de pueblos judíos en la antigua Commonwealth (mancomunidad) polaco-lituana escribiendo su historia en el Shtetl virtual.
