La Unión Europea de Fútbol (UEFA) no prohibirá a Israel participar en los juegos mundiales, anunció el jueves el secretario general, Theodore Theodoridis.
El anuncio se produce en medio de un llamado a boicotear al equipo israelí en los juegos mundiales liderados por 12 países luego de la guerra entre Israel y Hamás, según Enlace Judío.
En una carta dirigida a las 211 federaciones nacionales de futbol y a las seis confederaciones regionales, el presidente de la Federación de Asia Occidental, el príncipe Ali bin Al Hussein, medio hermano del rey Abdullah II de Jordania, pidió a las distintas asociaciones que “se sumen” a su postura.
Añadió que todos deben adoptar “una postura decisiva contra las atrocidades cometidas en Palestina y los crímenes de guerra en Gaza, condenando la matanza de civiles inocentes, incluidos jugadores, entrenadores, árbitros y funcionarios, la destrucción de la infraestructura de este deporte y tomando medidas en un frente unido para aislar a la Asociación Israelí de Fútbol de todas las actividades relacionadas con el futbol hasta que cesen estos actos de agresión”, señaló Sky News.
Moshe Zu-Aretz, director de la Asociación de Futbol de Israel, dijo en respuesta: “No nos sorprendió la acción cínica y descarada de algunas asociaciones, pidiendo la suspensión de Israel de su membresía en la FIFA y su participación en torneos internacionales.
Los medios israelíes lo citaron diciendo: “La Asociación de Fútbol, junto con amigos valientes y justos de la FIFA, la UEFA y otras confederaciones y asociaciones del mundo, liderarán una lucha contra las fuerzas oscuras y evitarán daños fatales al Estado de Israel. …y al fútbol israelí.”
Respecto a los llamados a prohibir a Israel en una medida similar al boicot a Rusia por parte de la FIFA tras su invasión de Ucrania en 2022, Theodoridis dijo: “No hubo tal discusión ni tal intención por parte de la administración de la UEFA.
Además, afirmó, “Son dos situaciones completamente diferentes entre ambos países”.
Con ese criterio, desafilien a los doce países que indirectamente están apoyando el genocidio que se cometió contra Israel.
