Adidas dejará de vender las camisetas de la Selección de fútbol de Alemania con el dorsal 44 por su semejanza a la simbología nazi.
Mucha gente comenzó a hacerse eco del diseño del número e insisten en que el 44 se parece a la runa prohibida de las SS, y que el número 4 recuerda a la simple runa de la victoria, que durante el régimen nazi (1933-1945) fue el emblema de las Juventudes Hitlerianas, según el diario Bild.
El parecido se detectó en las redes sociales y generó fuertes críticas.
La Federación Alemana de Fútbol (DFB) manifestó que está «en conversaciones con ’11Teamsports’ para desarrollar un diseño alternativo para la tipografía del número cuatro y luego adaptarlo oficialmente en coordinación con la UEFA».
También se cambiará el dorsal 14, y ningún jugador llevará el 44, ya que las camisetas estarán enumeradas del 1 al 23 en la Eurocopa.
En los últimos partidos amistosos de la selección alemana en Francia (0-2) y contra Países Bajos en casa (2-1), el defensa del Leverkusen Jonathan Tah vistió el 4 y el debutante Maximilian Beier el 14.

Bild cuestionó cómo es que la DFB no se dio cuenta antes del parecido con el símbolo de la SS. La Federación Alemana dijo que verificó los números del 0 al 9 y luego envió los números del 1 al 26 a la UEFA para su revisión. Ambas pruebas fueron aprobadas.
«Ninguna de las partes involucradas vio ninguna proximidad al simbolismo del nacionalsocialismo en el proceso de desarrollo del diseño de la camiseta», expresó la DFB, antes de añadir que «sólo la discusión pública de que podría haber una proximidad visual es suficiente para que se inicie un proceso de cambio».
A partir del 2027, Nike sustituirá a Adidas, proveedor del uniforme oficial alemán desde hace 70 años.
Previamente el portavoz de Adidas, Oliver Brüggen, explicó que no era la empresa de artículos deportivos, sino la DFB, la responsable del diseño de los números.
«La DFB y su socio ’11Teamsports’ son responsables del diseño de los nombres y los números», comentó.
En todo caso, Adidas retiró de la tienda en línea el dorsal 44 y tampoco aparece disponible para la venta en la tienda oficial de la Federación de Alemania, debido a la similitud con el símbolo nazi.
