Siendo un concepto kosher con vistas al icónico Burj Al Arab. Realmente está frente al mar, como sugiere su nombre hebreo. Ubicado en un pequeño puerto pesquero a lo largo de la pintoresca costa de Dubai.

Worcman, de Beersheba, llegó por primera vez a Dubái en noviembre, en uno de los primeros vuelos directos, en Flydubai. Mientras estaba en cuarentena de 24 horas esperando los resultados de su prueba de PCR, sintonizó las noticias solo para enterarse de las amenazas a los israelíes que estaban de vacaciones en la ciudad del Golfo a raíz de los Acuerdos de Abraham.

“Si me hubieras dicho en ese entonces que abriría un restaurante kosher y cambiaría mi vida para estar aquí en Dubái, no te habría creído”, dijo Worcman. “Entonces me preguntaba qué estaba haciendo, así que es una gran transformación. Incluso ahora, se siente como un sueño».

Para Kadosh, el cambio ha sido igualmente surrealista. Desde su casa en Kiryat Arba, cerca de Hebrón, la mudanza hubiera parecido absurda hace solo unos meses. Incluso, ahora sus amigos y familiares encuentran difícil comprender su vida.

Kadosh visitó Dubái en diciembre con su familia y, al igual que Worcman, sintió que faltaba comida kosher asequible y de buena calidad. «Cuando fuimos a la casa de Jabad y les dijimos que los necesitábamos para supervisar el restaurante porque estábamos abriendo un restaurante israelí, dijeron que quizás éramos la persona número 100 o más en venir y decirles eso», sonrió Kadosh.

La diferencia fue que fueron los primeros en encontrar socios locales para ayudarlos a comenzar y estaban listos para lanzar. Todavía se han necesitado algunas amistades especiales para sortear los procedimientos, que están en proceso de cambio a raíz del acuerdo de normalización anunciado el 13 de agosto. Los bancos aún no se han establecido y las visas para israelíes aún no se han procesado, pero como es el estilo israelí, los dos jóvenes han encontrado soluciones.

A su vez, los dos israelíes ven el restaurante como un faro, un faro de esperanza para unir a la gente. El chef, que es paquistaní, reza el viernes antes de regresar para cocinar cenas de Shabat. Uno de sus amigos más solidarios es un palestino. Ahora, que tienen socios comerciales emiratíes, la esperanza es tener más árabes trabajando con ellos también.

También, Worcman y Kadosh usan su kippot abiertamente en las calles. Hasta la fecha, no han tenido más que una cálida bienvenida de todos aquellos que descubren que son israelíes. Incluido un súper conductor paquistaní que podía recitar la Torá. Está muy lejos del miedo que habrían sentido en un país árabe hace 10 o 15 años, dicen.

“Nuestro sueño es reunirnos con iraníes, iraquíes y tantas personas de esta región como podamos. Y, así, mostrarles que todo lo que queremos es la paz”, cerró Kadosh.
