DeSean Jackson, estrella de la NFL que se desempeña como receptor abierto de los Eagles de Filadelfia, se disculpó tras sus comentarios antisemitas. Además, afirmó que no odia a la comunidad judía y realizó «una promesa de mejorar».

El texto que el deportista publicó el lunes se lo atribuyó al dictador Adolf Hitler, además de expresar admiración por el líder de la Nación del Islam, Louis Farrakhan.

Al día siguiente emitió una disculpa diciendo que no se dio cuenta «de lo que decía este pasaje (el atribuido a Hitler)» y que lamenta «cualquier daño causado».

Su equipo manifestó que los mensajes fueron «ofensivos, dañinos y absolutamente atroces», y habría «medidas apropiadas». Tanto Jeffrey Lurie, dueño del equipo, como el gerente general, Howie Roseman, son judíos.

Jackson expresó su deseo de educarse a sí mismo y trabajar directamente con la comunidad judía.

Posteriormente al suceso, desde su institución se pusieron en contacto con el rabino en Chabad, Young Philly, para coordinar donaciones y trabajos conjuntos con el jugador.

La controversia surgió luego de la publicación de la estrella de la NFL en Instagram: «Porque los judíos saben que los negros son los hijos verdaderos de Israel y para preservar el secreto de América los judíos chantajearán a Estados Unidos. Extorsionarán a América, su plan de dominación mundial no funcionará si los negros saben quiénes son. Los ciudadanos blancos de América estarán aterrorizados de saber que todo este tiempo maltrataron, discriminaron y lincharon a los hijos de Israel».

También compartió dos posteos expresando admiración por Farrakhan, que está identificado como antisemita. Luego los eliminó.

En una declaración, los Eagles indicaron que hablaron «con DeSean Jackson sobre sus publicaciones. Independientemente de sus intenciones, los mensajes que compartió fueron ofensivos, dañinos y absolutamente atroces. No tienen cabida en nuestra sociedad, y la organización no los aprueba ni respalda de ninguna manera».

«Estamos decepcionados y reiteramos a DeSean la importancia de disculparse y usar su plataforma para promover la unidad, la igualdad y el respeto», expresaron.

La Liga Nacional de Fútbol Americano (NFL) emitió un comunicado calificando los comentarios como «altamente inapropiados, ofensivos, que dividen a la sociedad».

Agrega que «están en marcado enfrentamiento con los valores de respeto, igualdad e inclusión de la NFL».

Jackson, luego, publicó un mensaje en sus redes sociales: «Esta disculpa es más que sólo palabras: es una promesa de mejorar».

«Quiero disculparme con la comunidad judía, Jeffrey Lurie, Howie Roseman, Doug Pederson, la organización Eagles y nuestros aficionados, por las publicaciones insensibles y mal informadas que compartí en mis redes sociales. Involuntariamente lastimé a la comunidad judía en el proceso y por eso lo siento», expresó.

«Me educaré y trabajaré con organizaciones locales y nacionales para estar más informado y marcar una diferencia en nuestra comunidad», prometió.
