La Conferencia de Reclamaciones con sede en Nueva York anunció el miércoles su nuevo Programa de asistencia con vacunas para sobrevivientes del Holocausto (HSVAP, por sus siglas en inglés), a través de su red de más de 300 agencias asociadas.

Segun el sitio Enlace Judío, los fondos brindados por Alemania, cubrirán los costos de organizar las citas de vacunación, transportar a los sobrevivientes del Holocausto hacia y desde las citas y coordinar la atención de seguimiento y el asesoramiento según sea necesario.

“Este apoyo adicional del gobierno alemán expandirá nuestros esfuerzos a más de 40 países en los que viven sobrevivientes del Holocausto”, dijo Stuart Eizenstat. Este último, dirigió las negociaciones con el gobierno alemán en nombre de la Conferencia de Reclamaciones. “Una vez que los gobiernos nacionales pongan a disposición las vacunas, estaremos allí para asegurarnos de que todos los sobrevivientes conozcan sus opciones. Por lo que tendrán acceso a las vacunas y no se sentirán abandonados”.

En tanto, la Conferencia de Reclamaciones estima que hay más de 340.000 sobrevivientes del Holocausto viviendo en todo el mundo. El 45 por ciento aún no está vacunado.

También, tras descubrir que muchos sobrevivientes del Holocausto confinados en sus hogares no se vacunan, una organización médica israelí se ha asociado con un grupo de restitución de sobrevivientes para lanzar un servicio para concertar sus citas y transportarlos a las clínicas.
