El presidente de Israel, Reuven Rivlin, recibió en Jerusalén al equipo olímpico nacional que representará al país en Tokio 2021 para desearles suerte y saludarlos con un «¡kol hakavod!», el modismo hebreo que significa -en este caso un esperanzado- «¡bien hecho!»
La ceremonia, que se llevó a cabo en la Beit HaNasi, la residencia presidencial, reunió a todos los atletas que llevarán el escudo israelí en los Juegos Olímpicos y en los Paralímpicos, y a los funcionarios que acompañarán a las delegaciones.
Ustedes son las mejores personas para representar al estado de Israel en el deporte internacional y por eso les digo ‘kol hakavod’», afirmó Rivlin.
Los atletas israelíes «se prepararon magníficamente», dijo el presidente Rivlin.
«Esto demuestra que con determinación y trabajo duro es posible alcanzar un éxito deportivo increíble y superar barreras».

Los juegos comenzarán el 23 de julio, y las delegaciones israelíes todavía no tienen fecha de salida hacia la capital japonesa. Los mismos se iban a realizar el año pasado pero se pospusieron hasta el 2021 a causa de la pandemia de coronavirus–
Sin embargo, Rivlin quiso llevar a cabo esta tradicional ceremonia antes de que concluya su mandato, el 7 de julio. En ese momento entregará el puesto al presidente ya electo por la Knesset, Isaac Herzog.
«Se prepararon magníficamente, ahora es el momento cosechar los frutos y la gloria. De ir más rápido, más alto, más fuerte, de la manera más bella», declaró Rivlin.
«Creemos en ustedes, en que están preparados para afrontar cualquier reto, sabemos que pueden hacerlo», completó.

La participación de Israel en las olimpíadas suele ser modesta, pero entusiasta. Teniendo en cuenta que se trata de un país pequeño, Israel logró un total de nueve medallas (una de oro, una de plata y siete de bronce) desde que empezó a participar de los juegos, en 1952.
Este año, Israel volverá a apostar a uno de sus equipos más exitosos, el de judo, pero también a una de sus revelaciones, la gimnasta Linoy Ashram.
Mientras que la cosecha de medallas en los deportes tradicionales es limitada, Israel suele recolectar numerosas preseas en los Juegos Paralímpicos; Nada menos que 375 medallas entre 1960 y 2016.
De la ceremonia en la residencia presidencial participaron también Ilana y Ankie, las viudas de Yossef Romano y Andre Spitzer, dos de los atletas israelíes asesinados durante la masacre de las olimpiadas de Munich 1972.
