El ejército británico recibió fuertes condenas por el sorprendente parecido de una nueva insignia de regimiento con el símbolo del águila nazi.

Durante el jueves se presentó la nueva insignia del sombrero del Regimiento de Guardabosques del Reino Unido.

El anuncio se hizo a través de Twitter: «Revelamos la insignia de la gorra del Regimiento Ranger. El Regimiento Ranger es una contribución importante al futuro del Ejército Británico».

Un aluvión de usuarios de Twitter respondió a la publicación señalando que la nueva insignia del ejército británico se asemeja al águila nazi (el «Reichsadler»). También se parece a la insignia de los Selous Scouts, una unidad de fuerzas especiales de la era del Apartheid de Sudáfrica.

Un usuario, The Perennial Captain, comentó: «Bueno, eso es realmente horrible. Realmente bastante horrible. Vergonzoso. Espero que alguien tenga la confianza para admitir el error».

Además, otro miembro de Twitter expresó: «Sería genial si pudiera compartir el proceso de pensamiento que aterrizó en esto, por favor (aparte del nombre, esa parte es obvia)».

“Lo vi y pensé ‘águila nazi’”, tuiteó @Plus_haut. Otro usuario, por su parte, dijo: «No es un gran aspecto, ejército británico». Y otro comentó que la insignia demuestra que el ejército «perdió los últimos jirones de conciencia de sí mismo».

Cuando la cuenta de la milicia twitteó ejemplos de «otros regimientos del ejército británico con pájaros en sus insignias de gorra», incluidos la caballería galesa y los húsares reales del rey, los usuarios los acusaron de «retroceder» y dijeron que no era el hecho de que la insignia tenía un pájaro, pero la similitud del diseño estuvo en cuestión.
