Un luchador israelí consiguió el sábado por la noche su primera victoria en la máxima categoría del Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), al derrotar a su oponente por decisión unánime de los jueces en Las Vegas.
Natan Levy, de 30 años, es el único luchador de artes marciales mixtas israelí que compite en la UFC, la principal promoción de lucha del mundo.
Tras el combate, Levy dijo que subastará su equipo de la pelea para recaudar fondos para los supervivientes del Holocausto.
“Lo que pasaron fue horrible”, dijo en la rueda de prensa, señalando que Israel celebró el jueves el Día de la Memoria del Holocausto.
“Todo lo que podamos hacer para apoyarlo o llamar la atención, hay muchas causas que merecen la pena, para mí, esta es la causa que veo ahora mismo”, dijo Levy.
“No van a estar aquí para siempre para contar su historia”, dijo.
Levy salió victorioso en su combate de peso ligero contra Mike Breeden, con una puntuación de los jueces de 29-28, 29-28 y 30-27 a su favor en los tres asaltos.
El año pasado, Levy se convirtió en el tercer israelí en firmar con la UFC.

Nacido en París en el seno de una familia judía tradicional, los padres de Levy se divorciaron cuando él tenía 4 años. Levy tenía unos 5 años cuando se mudó.
Le acosaban por su acento y se defendía, peleándose con otros estudiantes. Con el tiempo, Levy aprendió a canalizar su agresividad en las artes marciales. A los 13 años empezó a entrenar semanalmente y a los 18 viajó a Okinawa, Japón, para recibir su cinturón negro de karate.
