El presidente de Israel, Reuven Rivlin, condenó este miércoles los disturbios en la ciudad central de Lod como un “pogrom” de árabes contra judíos. Esto sucedió en medio de la escalada de violencia frente a la Franja de Gaza.


Israel fue adelante con una fuerte presencia policiaca en ciudades con poblaciones judías y árabes luego de fuertes disturbios sucedidos ayer en varias localidades informó Enlace Judío.

La medida se produjo horas después de que se declarara el estado de emergencia en la ciudad de Lod, en el centro de Israel, donde los intensos disturbios árabes a última hora del martes provocaron el incendio de 3 sinagogas y numerosas tiendas, junto con decenas de automóviles.

La rara declaración de emergencia en la ciudad central de Israel provocó el envío urgente de varias unidades de la Policía Fronteriza para mantener el orden.

En una declaración con un lenguaje inusualmente fuerte, Rivlin dijo que “la vista del pogrom en Lod y los disturbios en todo el país por una turba árabe incitada y sedienta de sangre… es imperdonable”, de acuerdo con The Times of Israel.

“El silencio de la dirección árabe sobre estos disturbios es vergonzoso. Dan apoyo al terrorismo y los disturbios y fomentan la ruptura de la sociedad en la que vivimos. Es la sociedad en la que seguiremos viviendo una vez que todo esto haya pasado”. Eso dijo Rivlin, conocido por tratar de mejorar siempre los lazos entre judíos y árabes.

“El gobierno israelí debe perseguir a los alborotadores con mano firme para restaurar la seguridad y el orden mientras lucha contra el terrorismo desde Gaza sin compromiso”, agregó el presidente, que en julio dejará el cargo tras sus 7 años formales en el puesto.

Por su parte, el primer ministro Benjamín Netanyahu, al visitar una estación de policía en la ciudad norteña de Acre, que también vio violentos disturbios el martes por la noche, dijo que el gobierno estaba “continuando el esfuerzo para detener la anarquía y restaurar el orden en las ciudades de Israel”.

“Hay una serie de eventos que se han alimentado unos a otros”, dijo el primer ministro. “Estamos usando todas nuestras fuerzas para proteger al país de los enemigos en el exterior y los alborotadores en el interior”.

“En cuanto a los disturbios que vimos, lamentablemente, en ciudades mixtas: en primer lugar, esto es intolerable. Nos recuerda escenas del pasado de nuestra gente y no podemos aceptar eso. Definitivamente no en nuestro país”, dijo, aparentemente comparándolo con pogroms del pasado contra judíos.

Netanyahu pidió a los líderes de la comunidad árabe que condenen la violencia y tomen medidas para detenerla.
