El ministro de Relaciones Exteriores de Israel, Yair Lapid, llegó a Emiratos Árabes para inaugurar la embajada en Abu Dhabi.

La visita de Lapid al país emiratí es la primera de un ministro israelí desde la firma del año pasado de los Acuerdos Abraham.

En su discurso, el canciller de Israel describió la ocasión como un «momento histórico» y agradeció al ex primer ministro, Benjamín Netanyahu, por su «visión».

“Estamos aquí porque elegimos la paz sobre la guerra”, dijo, enfatizando que la apertura de la embajada de Israel en Abu Dhabi fue solo el comienzo del proceso.

«Israel quiere la paz con todos sus vecinos. Israel no se irá a ninguna parte. Oriente Medio es nuestro hogar», expresó. Además, agregó: “La paz no es un compromiso. La paz es la victoria de todo lo bueno».

Durante su visita lo acompañó la ministra de Desarrollo de Conocimiento y Cultura de Emiratos, Noura Al Kaabi.

“Subrayamos nuestro entusiasmo por lo que esperamos que sea la primera de muchas visitas de alto nivel. Es esencial que nos preparemos a nosotros mismos y a nuestros hijos para un mundo nuevo», manifestó Al Kaabi.

También destacó las colaboraciones en inteligencia artificial, ciudades inteligentes, COVID-19, comercio y turismo.

Para finalizar, dijo «todah rabah» («muchas gracias» en hebreo).

Eitan Na’eh, embajador de Israel en EAU, comentó: “Hubo visitas emocionantes, sí. Pero en términos de sentimiento personal nunca hubo una como esta. Ver la bandera ondeando junto a la bandera emiratí, las primeras llamadas telefónicas, el viaje al hotel del ministro, la preparación de la [nueva] embajada…es edificante”.
