La delegación de Israel tendrá 90 atletas participando en los JJOO de Tokio 2020, récord histórico para el país.

El Comité Olímpico israelí anunció que el levantador de pesas, David Litvinov, se une a la delegación, elevando el número total de atletas a 90.

Litvinov ingresó en la nómica luego de que el atleta brasileño Fernando Rice fuera sorprendido con sustancias prohibidas, lo que creó un espacio para un nuevo atleta en la categoría.

Los 90 miembros de Israel en Tokio suponen un enorme aumento -casi el doble- en comparación con los 47 que compitieron en los JJOO de Río de Janeiro 2016.

Este extraordinario salto se debe principalmente a que compite el primer equipo de béisbol de la historia de Israel. También debutarán el surf, tiro con arco y equitación.

Además, el judoka Or Sasson, medallista israelí de los Juegos Olímpicos de 2016, volverá a competir. Había ganado una medalla de bronce.

El favorito de los aficionados, Alexander Shatilov, un célebre gimnasta y el atleta olímpico más experimentado de la delegación israelí, volverá para disputar sus cuartos Juegos.

La gimnasta Linoy Ashram, quien logró gran cantidad de medallas internacionales, es vista como la mejor apuesta para llevarse premio en Tokio.
