El primer ministro israelí, Naftali Bennett, llegó a Estados Unidos en su primer viaje oficial desde que asumió y se reunirá con Joe Biden.

Bennett tendrá un encuentro con el presidente norteamericano con el fin de reforzar la alianza entre los dos países y abordar el acuerdo nuclear con Irán.

“Joe Biden es un viejo y verdadero amigo de Israel”, destacó Bennett antes de embarcar en el avión rumbo a Estados Unidos. Este miércoles se reunirá con el secretario de Estado, Antony Blinken, y el jefe del Pentágono, Lloyd Austin. El jueves lo recibirá Biden en la Casa Blanca, en su primera reunión cara a cara.

El premier, por su parte, afirmó que abordará con el mandatario estadounidense medidas para “detener el plan nuclear iraní”, la principal cuestión que les divide, ya que Biden se mostró partidario de retomar las negociaciones nucleares con Irán, principal enemigo de Israel.

Además, la autoridad israelí dijo traer “un nuevo espíritu de cooperación” con EE.UU. y aseguró que su voluntad de colaborar con el máximo socio de Israel servirá también para fortalecer “la relación especial y duradera” entre ambos países y la seguridad del Estado judío.

El encuentro marcará el inicio de una nueva era en la relación entre las máximas autoridades de ambos países. Benjamín Netanyahu y Donald Trump, durante los años previos, establecieron una profunda alianza política e ideológica.

Un asunto en el que no se prevé que hagan grandes avances es el conflicto palestino-israelí. Se estima que será más bien secundaria en sus conversaciones.

«También nos ocuparemos de las áreas de economía, alta tecnología, innovación, la crisis climática y, por supuesto, la lucha contra el Covid. Tengo la intención de compartir con el presidente Biden el conocimiento y las perspectivas que estamos adquiriendo», expresó Bennett en su Twitter.
